ADDICTION PROGRAMS - Find a meeting
12-Step Expectations
Expectations
Expect to feel welcomed and at home.
Do not mention your drug or drink of choice.
When sharing, try to stick to talking about yourself only. You can do this by using ‘I’ statements.
It is encouraged that you talk about your experience, your strength, and your hope.
Try talking to someone after the meeting. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but this is a great way to make friends and find a potential sponsor.
Ask someone about sponsorship.
Get a phone list and plan to call someone on that list if you feel like using or drinking.
Remember that not everyone has the same story as you, but they are there for the same purpose.
Remember to take it one day at a time.
